The Carpetbagger

Welcome!  My name is Samantha Swade.  I am an artist and  fashion enthusiast, who originally hails from Leawood, Kansas.  From the time I was a preteen, I did my best to throw myself into the world of fashion and took advantage of my big brother living NYC where I spent my adolescent summers crashing on his couch so I could intern for his Fashion Designer (then)girlfriend, while taking intensive pre-college art and fashion courses at Parsons.  This led to my studying at a variety of different art schools including The School Of The Art Institute Of Chicago as well as Parsons.  With a creative vision from day one/Having always been well aware of my surroundings, I can’t help but look at the world with a creative eye (telescope)  I enjoy people watching, observing  different aspects of culture, art, fashion, music, fashion, and anything in between.  I currently live in Brooklyn, NY (my favorite place in the world!) where I do my best to spread myself between several art forms including painting, illustrating, mixed media, prop and wardrobe styling.  The thrill of creating a treasure out of another’s trash is what motivates and inspires me day after day.  I am sharing with you this blog as a sort of “open diary” if you will, of all that inspires me, and taking the time to notice the beauty in the everyday.  Cheers!
